August 2016

commodore

Hi and welcome to busy Aug.

I say busy because we have over 12 members who celebrate a birthday in Aug and the annual bank party will be on the 13 of Aug, This is a free party for ALL and starts about - somewhere - in and around - 2pm or 2.30pm. ( THYC time ) Just bring your own burgers / dogs / chicken? or whatever to put on one of the BBQ's. Sit and enjoy or walk the bank to see friends and talk about the upcoming EX, or the Air Show on the Labour Day weekend.

If you are planning to go to the Air Show, my suggestion would be, to " clear " the bridges by 11:15 / 11:30 at the latest, as the show starts at 12:00pm each day and ends at 3:00pm. There is a practice day on Fri. Sept 2nd and it starts at 11:00am till 2:00pm. This exciting weekend show is followed by the Annual Corn Roast on the next weekend ( Sept 10th with a 4.00 pm start).

Corn Roast is set and we are just waiting for the final burst of growth of the corn as it is only " so high " right now , but it WILL be great again this year. It's all you can eat corn on the cob , burgers, dogs , chili / cheese dogs, creamy potato salad, coleslaw and free draft beer ( till the kegs run out ) and hot apple pie an ice - cream for dessert. ( we might even have a surprise dessert in the wings ) all this for $ 20.00 PP. ( small kids a whole lot less ! like $ 2.00. ).

We did very well in horse-shoe competition against Etobicoke Y. C. We did beat them in actual team competition and Mimico did not make it up. Since Mimico did not make it up we will HAVE to beat them at the Dingy race next year!

Commodore's Ball tickets will be available at the bar very soon and we have an excellent DJ booked plus a Roast Beef dinner with all the trimmings for you to enjoy. Tickets are $ 35.00 pp Cocktails at 6 pm Dinner at 7 pm Dancing 8 pm till ? Enjoy. The DRESS code for the night is Blazer / Greys for the men and for the ladies elegant.

With the heat that we have had in the past 3 /4 weeks Greg and Adam have kept not only the lawn watered and looking good but also watered Ursula's huge array of flowers, keeping the club grounds looking sharp. There are still a few spots along the bank and the west fence line that need some clean up and this work is ongoing. Thanks to all for their continued efforts.

Welcome to our new members and hope to see you all in the club on the bank or on the river.

Warm regards Ron.
